Trail Info

This trail begins in a place called Malha Grande in the upstream area of the village of Biscoitos, next to the regional road.

Start by taking a gravel trail flanked by endemic flora, including Azores laurels (Laurus azorica), Azores heathers (Erica azorica) fire trees (Morella faya) and Azores junipers (Juniperus brevifolia). When you arrive at a fork, turn left to a cobbled street that will guide you to a watercourse in a Japanese cedar wood.

Continue through some bridges and turn right to a shortcut that runs parallel to the watercourse. Turn left crossing the watercourse, enter a pasture and go up until you reach a wooden portal. Continue on the dirt road and enter the Japanese cedar wood that leads to the Azinhal Valley.

Go up the stairway and, when you reach a clearing, keep to the left skirting the cliff until you reach a geodesic mark that indicates the highest point of this route (708m). From this point, you can see the Biscoito da Ferraria and Pico Alto Protected Area.

Then go down towards the Rocha do Chambre Viewpoint.

Continue descending through agricultural land until you reach a bull ring, where you should turn right. Go through the gate and follow a path flanked by heathers.

This will take you back to the initial fork. From here, continue along a gravel trail until you return to the beginning of the route.
